Frequently asked questions
Analyzing player video is critical because it bridges the gap between what a skater feels like they are doing versus what they are actually doing. It allows our coaches to analyze and highlight how a player is skating and what exactly they need to work on. This window presents the perfect opportunity for players to ask questions and be curious about how they can improve, what they are doing well, and more importantly building a positive relationship with progress toward their goals.
We take the time to work individually with our athletes to help them to understand how to get "Down To 90". We use on ice video to capture different aspects of our players stride, and help them to understand what areas they need to improve on as well as where they are thriving. Instead of just giving a general program of drills designed to give the players high reps and a good workout, we take the time to create a unique summer program that makes our players really think about how they are moving on the ice, how they deal with pressure in small area situations, and how to get to open areas of the ice when they need to become available options. The DT90 Process is not only designed to create better skaters, but better hockey players.
Down To 90 Skating takes place throughout the summer between the months of June-August. We skate twice a week for 10 weeks, and also have off ice sessions every Thursday as well as video analysis which is distributed via personalized google drive folder, and is constantly updated throughout the summer. This gives our athletes a live look at how they are progressing and what they need to work on. There is also a camp with former NHL'r Curtis Brackenbury which will span a full week in July, and will consist of on ice, off ice and video sessions. There is also a link to our Calendly at the top of our site, marked by a schedule icon. Here you can schedule time to speak to owner/head coach Raymond Jacques Jr. You can also reach out to coach Ray if you have any further questions. You can find additional contact info at the bottom of our home page or on our contact page!
Our Philosophy is that we will help any aspiring athlete who commits themselves to getting to the next level. There is no skill requirement to join our program, as we believe that every player has the right to work toward their goals, and become better hockey players. We will give them the tools, but it is up to them with what they want to do with them.
When we create a new habit we have to first look at how this is done. Every time you repeat an action, you strengthen the neural connections in your brain associated with that behavior. The first few times you do something, these pathways are weak and it takes a lot of conscious effort. Consistent repetition is like paving a road in your brain; it turns a difficult, bumpy path into a smooth, automatic highway. Continuing to practice and refine that habit further strengthens these pathways, allowing the action to become faster, more efficient, and more ingrained, moving from a deliberate effort to an almost unconscious routine. The Down to 90 Process is very similar in this regard, and requires attention and effort to continuously improve in the positive direction. It is important to keep a journal, take some video, and practice every day even if for only 5 minutes to keep and build upon this pathway. Only then will you see true progress on your journey to master "Getting Down to 90"!
